Emerald Dragon Neutral
Secretive watchers of the deep, masters of perception and illusion.
Among the elusive Gem Dragons of Algoron, few are as poorly understood as the Emerald Dragons. Secretive by nature, they are shy, watchful creatures who prefer observing the world to announcing their presence in it. Many believe they have never encountered an Emerald Dragon. This may not be true.
Emerald Dragons possess powerful minds and an instinctive fascination with perception, illusion and the workings of thought. They are known to observe people and other creatures from great distances, concealing themselves while using their psychic abilities to study events without becoming involved. While they collect the treasures expected of dragonkind, their hoards often hold stranger prizes: illusion-producing artifacts, magical curiosities, ancient writings and detailed records of unusual magical events. To an Emerald Dragon, knowledge may be worth considerably more than gold.
Their scales resemble polished emeralds, pale green when young and deepening into a rich emerald hue with age. Mature Emerald Dragons have brilliant, reflective scales that can make them hard to tell apart from the glittering mineral formations of their subterranean homes.
Emerald Dragons dwell mostly underground, favoring warm regions with volcanic activity. They build their lairs in enormous networks of tunnels, vast caverns and passages twisted around rivers and chambers of molten rock, labyrinths with countless places from which to watch an intruder without ever being seen.
Though neutral in alignment, Emerald Dragons are neither indifferent nor without purpose. They are intensely curious creatures who prefer careful observation and calculated action to impulsive violence. Their behavior can seem mysterious simply because they often know considerably more about those around them than they are willing to reveal.
Whether an Emerald Dragon is hiding because it fears being discovered or simply because it wishes to watch unnoticed is rarely clear. By the time one reveals itself, it has probably been watching you for quite some time.
Immunities and resistances
- Immune: Psychic (mental) damage. The change note says Emerald Dragons are naturally immune to the psychic damage they breathe; the site's Emerald page words it 'exceptionally resistant to such psychic assaults'. (change note 1149 (2026-08-13); dsl-mud.org Emerald Dragons)
Dragonskin set bonus
Wearing the full set of crafted Emerald dragonskin armor: Sometimes when struck, a pulse of psychic static disorients the attacker: their attacks become noticeably less accurate and less powerful.
change note 1152 (2026-08-14). No bonus has a published size; the notes say "occasionally", "a solid chance" and "a small chance". How sets work: dragonskin sets.
Alterform races
Human, Deep Gnome, Tinker Gnome, Hill Dwarf, Mountain Dwarf, Dark Dwarf. The available races change by dragon type (Neutral dragons here); the game's help alterform lists them per type, not per color. (game help alterform, updated 2026-11-01)
From the staff notes
- Power: Built to stand with Blue Dragons: the same base stats and roughly the same overall combat weight. (change note 1149 (2026-08-13))
- Breath: Disorienting Breath: mental damage comparable to a Blue Dragon's lightning breath. A victim who fails to resist is disoriented for several minutes: they hit less accurately and less powerfully, think less clearly and resist further magic less well. It is not a stun. A victim who resists takes half the damage and avoids the disorientation. (change note 1149 (2026-08-13))
- Alignment: Neutral only: like its Gem kin an Emerald Dragon cannot be Good or Evil. (change note 1149 (2026-08-13))
