Title
[0;36mThe Great Mill[0m
Description
The northwestern corner of the Mill, is packed with opened bales of cotton, jute, wool, silk, and other materials. Workers prepare the raw materials for spinning here, cleaning and washing it in a low sluice that feeds this part of the mill. Material is sorted, inspected, and sent to the appropriate area where it is further processed into skeins or bobbins. The spinning devices are all powered by the undershot western wheel, where water is diverted from the river into a flume to drive the blades of the pitchback wheel. A massive axle extends overhead, turning gears which may be engaged to operate the machines.
