In the Middle of the Sand Pit

Description

  Sand rises to in any direction you look.  To the north, the bounding

walls of the cliff glare a harsh red against the blinding reflection. 

South, the tip of the pillar of rock is visible in the sky, the rest hidden

by the sloping sands and the wavering air.  The heat increases in intensity

at the center of the depression, as if all the sunlight was being channeled

to this one spot.
