Beside a Boulder

Description

  The enormous, cracked boulder straddles the old steam.  As though

yielding to the greater force, the dry, cracking stone around it is

indented, crushed to fine dust.  Tiny, almost nonexistent scrub clings to

the small divet around the boulder, sheltering the second half of the day in

its protective shade.  Away from the boulder is a large and jagged cliff,

perhaps the original resting place of the entrenched behemoth here.

     A dotting of tiny green leaves barely indicates the presence of a plant.

     The sliced-off arm of a hurrum beetle is lying here.

  The enormous, cracked boulder straddles the old steam.  No visible point

nearby serves as the rock's original resting place.  As though yielding to

the greater force, the dry, cracking stone around it seems indented, crushed

to nothingness.  Small, coarse plants cling to the small divet around the

boulder, sheltering the first half of the day in its protective shade.  Away

from the boulder is a seemingly endless plain of rough, red rock beneath the

blazing sun.
