Workers prepare the raw\n\nmaterials for spinning here, cleaning and washing it in a low sluice that\n\nfeeds this part of the mill.  Material is sorted, inspected, and sent to the\n\nappropriate area where it is further processed into skeins or bobbins.  The\n\nspinning devices are all powered by the undershot western wheel, where water\n\nis diverted from the river into a flume to drive the blades of the pitchback\n\nwheel.  A massive axle extends overhead, turning gears which may be engaged\n\nto operate the machines.  \n\n\r\n",
